The Public Health project in the Philippines is an opportunity to get hands-on experience in the medical and healthcare field while experiencing the unique culture and lifestyle of this country. Based in the municipality of San Remigio, you will work alongside local doctors, nurses and health workers, providing health screenings and creating health promotion strategies.
The Philippines struggles to provide affordable healthcare to all its citizens, and some easily treated non-communicable diseases are now among the leading causes of death in the country. Volunteers are needed to help reach communities in need and provide primary advice and treatment. Your role on the project will be to assist with public health screenings - measuring blood pressure, blood sugar and the waistlines of locals. These figures will be used when creating health promotion strategies for each community. You will also be given the opportunity to assist dentists with dental check-ups and help pharmacists dispense medication. Visits to local hospitals, rural villages and conferences during the two weeks will also be part of the schedule.
All volunteers will live with Filipino host families, offering an opportunity to experience local hospitality. Living and working with volunteers from all over the globe will leave you with long-lasting friendships once the project has come to an end. Your schedule will include day trips to Bogo City and a visit to the Capitancillo Islet.
